Jan van Dijk reported this bittersweet news on the Dutch Forum:
"One of the juvies was found injured. Both her legs were completely smashed and irreparable. Apparently her outstretched legs hit something very hard while she was hunting. She was taken to the vet who put her asleep.
Only 50% of the juvies survive the first year.
Both other two girls are doing great! They successfully hunted already and will leave this territory soon.
Daddy Harco often perches on the nestbox ledge, as if to let know this is his territory."

Grazie, Nora! Questo mio grazie è particolarmente sentito. Nora sta seppellendo sua madre ed ha sepolto suo padre circa tre mesi fa.
Questa falchetta si è maciullata i piedi sbattendo violentemente contro qualcosa di molto duro mentre cacciava con le zampe tese per afferrare la preda. Il veterinario ha solo potuto addormentarla.
Le sorelle vanno alla grande.
Mi dispiace, le notizie dopo gli involi sono spesso molto tristi. Si cerca di farci l'abitudine, ma so che è quasi impossibile.
Cerchiamo di pensare che questi meravigliosi uccelli, insieme fragili e feroci, hanno solcato il cielo, sia pure per pochi giorni.
Hanno conosciuto il vento sibilante nelle ali, hanno giocato, cacciato, ucciso, sono stati felici nella pienezza della loro natura.
Non hanno contato i giorni della loro breve esistenza.
Né più né meno di una farfalla.
