As you have read on
the Planet Peregrine Falcon site as of Monday June 11 the webcams will go offline.
What does that mean for the Planet forum? Will that close as well?
No, the forum will keep running, at least for a while.
For those who want to recap this season, for the reports from around the Tower, for the movies made by Lambert Cox and some other topics.
Most topics will be closed however. Maybe the remaining topics will be reorganized in a new group, to make it a little easier to navigate.
A fixed date for the end of the forum is not set yet. Probably early next month, when the whole Falcon site will be taken offline.
It is however possible that the forum will be accessible for much longer, in a sort of sleep-mode.
Everybody rest assured; all the important information about this season will be saved.
Pictures, movies, reports, nothing will be lost.
Our plan is to add it to the forum next year as an Archive, a Treasure trove.
It has been a remarkable season. Not just because of what happened in and around the nestbox, but also here on the forum.
It was a new forum-format and many had to adjust and had problems with that.
It became a very large community and where so many people of so many different walks of life come together, trouble can arise quite easily.
The forum was rocky at times, both technical and in contents. Emotions were strong and sometimes even near violent, most of those periods were triggered by events with our Falcon family.
We will try to do a better job next year, we have learned a lot this season.
What remains is a feeling of gratitude towards all the many people who participated in a wonderful positive way and made this forum to a success.
It became a place where members started to cooperate to get things done, such as Pure Observations and the time-roster for it.
Many worked hard to help their fellow watchers in many ways. Translators, to accommodate our English speaking guests.
All the hundreds of screenshots taken and shared. Video's recorded and edited into beautiful movies. People were helping others with getting registered, put an avatar next to their name, posting of pictures, navigating and using this forum...
Many people went to the nest site at the bottom of the Tower and made beautiful reports about what they saw and experienced there and shared it with all of us.
Poetry was written about the sad and joyful moments, amazing music was composed, And again this was all shared with the rest of us.
That is what strikes me the most; the sharing and helping and the common joy with the Falcons at the center.
