Grazie, Ro. E' vero, Glenn con le sue immagini trasmette poesia e a me anche una gran voglia di ritornare a SF perché è un posto speciale con un fascino tutto suo, in parte dovuto ai grandiosi ponti e alla grande baia. Che adesso so popolata da una quantità variegata di uccelli e di falchi che tornano a scandire il ritmo delle stagioni.

oggi pomeriggio sono finalmente riuscita a guardare un po' di album di Glenn Nevill... in quello datato 20 ottobre ci sono realmente delle foto sensazionali ! Albanelle e nibbi una meraviglia sul serio... e poi vari limicoli, aironi eccetera!!! Ci sono molte belle foto anche negli album di altre date ma questo ve lo suggerisco senz'altro!!

mary malec e cheryl wolfcale hanno fatto un giro al ponte di alameda (cerchero' nelle mappe per capire dove sta e vi postero'..) dove era stato segnalato un falco (vedi anche foto del 27 10 07 di Glenn) e anche se di qualita' non eccellente (non era per niente facile!!!!) ha documentato la battaglia aerea tra la femmina di falco che ha stabilito il suo territorio intorno al ponte (all'estuario di un qualche fiume....) e un red tail hawk che ha avuto la malaugurata idea di avvicinarsi troppo... alla fine il red tail hawk se ne e' andato, inseguito per un breve tratto...
le foto sono eccezionali nonostante non siano nitidissime, immaginate solo la fatica di tenere entrambi i soggetti inquadrati ... questo non era un gioco era guerra!!!

We had a great time on the edge of the canyon tonight, the only thing missing was a
falcon. The company was inspiring, the weather was balmy, plenty of pelicans flew by and
we watched the heavy fog creep ever closer enveloping Alcatraz and the North Bay.
Although the falcons were invisible tonight, the humans were gathered to celebrate them
and that is a big part of what this urban birding is all about. Life is good with falcon
fanatic friends.
Nick, thanks for the report from the North, it's good to hear the falcons are out there.
As our planet suffers from climate changes, it's heartening to witness the peregrine's
adaptation and survival. They are true ambassadors of the natural world, here for all to
connect with.
Many other raptors are doing well too. Today on Hawk Hill we saw so many Red-tailed
Hawks we could hardly keep up as we tried to accurately count them. It was a wonderful
quandry to be in.
A bit off topic but very related, if you haven't looked at the Falcon Research Group website,
FRG.org, lately, go to it and read about the peregrines that are tagged with GPS
transmitters. They are following their migration from above the Artic Circle south to
Chile--a remarkable feat. Last spring they followed them north from Chile to their
breeding grounds, and now they are going back. You can look at their flight on Google
Earth and zoom into their nightly roost area. It's amazing, another example of the
wonders of these truly incredible birds.
As winter darkness creeps upon us, remember the birds are still flying, trying to make it to
their wintering grounds or just enjoying their wings. Don't forget to take advantage and
look up whenever you step outside.
With gratitude to the community that sustains me, human and otherwise

siamo d'accordo. forse perche' sono ormai un po' piu' vecchia .. (e piu' saggia?) tra le cose che mi migliorano l'umore e' leggere qualcosa che sento suonare dentro....mi da un attimo di felicita'... e come sapete non sono un'amante e conoscitrice in modo particolare della poesia, non riesco a leggere in modo organico un libro di poesie... ma mi piace quando trovo o leggo qualcosa la cui armonia mi "suona" dentro

aggiungo un post die songcatcher che esprime un sentimento che e' anche il mio per questa california cui sono particolarmente legata ma soprattutto per questi poveri animali che nulla possono contro la nostra incuria e il nostro sfruttare ben oltre il lecito questo pianeta terribile e meraviglioso

I'm sorry, but I'm having a hard time with the oil spill situation at this point. We must hope for the best. That said, I want to thank you Kanit for commenting on the West Virginia GPS tracking. I know it is a bit off topic, but it is so very interesting. We always wonder where the young go after fledging. Now we can see how interesting their flight patterns are. What is it that makes them change direction so drastically. Of each of the six birds each has it's own style of flight. I think it is interesting that the only Female in the group is the real flier. She has been to Canada and New Orleans areas. It will be interesting to see how they handle winter coming on.
My heart beats for all "our" birds. We are having a very difficult time and what really counts is that people care. Thanks to our governor for moving quickly and for all those who have tied to give a helping hand in what ever way they can. Do what ever you can in what ever the form it might take. This has been a hard year for the wild life in California. We lost so many in the recent California wild fires. So much habitat has been lost.
Glenn, thank you for your pictures. I know it was hard for you to document the moment. I know you can't get close to the really affected areas for reasons I won't go into, but thank you for your efforts none the less.
This is a hard time and I'm comforted knowing I'm not alone. Do what you can to help with conservation. It is so important to what we pass on to future generations. The Peregrine is what bonds us as a group, but when reality strikes we all know that if it has feathers we care even for the wonderful pigeon.
If anything strikes a cord it is the knowledge that I have so much gratitude for Brian Walton's efforts, his legacy and his SCPBRG people and what they give us...knowledge.
