Non è facile seguire tutte le web cam, ma mi sento in colpa per aver abbandonato il nido della cattedrale di Derby, anche perché ci sono stata l'anno scorso, ma i falchi si erano ormai allontanati.
La notizia della perdita di una falchetta dopo l'involo sarebbe solo triste se non fosse che molto probabilmente è stata uccisa dagli appassionati di piccioni.
Significa che in Inghilterra si ricomincia a sparare ai rapaci come durante l'ultima guerra.
Allora la notizia diventa molto grave oltre che triste.

Riporto due post di Froona dal forum di Harrisburg del 28 giugno.

We are very sad because we are certain that we have lost one of our youngsters.

We haven't seen de female 003 for over a week now. So we have to assume that she is no longer with us.

What happenend we do not know. There have been treaths from pigeonlovers to shoot the 4 out of the sky. Our maybe she just got herself killed.

The other 3 chaps are doing fine. They stay close together. Love to preen eachother and have a strong bond.

My good ( Mail) friend and informant in Derby, Colin Pass who runs a falconery nearby also tells me he watches the 3 boys while they train in foodpasses, lots of talon tag and play. (He neither has seen the female for over a week now.)
They do know how to pluck, and eat themselves. They have not yet been seen stooping, but that won't be long.

So the worst of times and the best of times. We go on with 3 beautiful, strong and healthy little tiercels.

Hope so she will. That she is somewhere recovering . But the behaviour of the parents does not indicate they are feeding one elsewhere.
That could be a possibility, but the parents are constantly with the 3 boys.

We just have to wait and see and hope and pray for the best.

I'm shocked, really about things happening over there. Peregrine falcons are just shot by crazy pigeonlovers. Some time ago a breeding peregrine couple was shot. They have saved the 3 eyases, but it is unbelievable these things can happen. I am appalled by this!

Condivido lo shock di Froona. Non pensavo potesse ancora succedere se non sporadicamente, ma sembra ci sia del metodo in questa follia..

Ma porcacccia miseria... due brutte notizie in un colpo solo stamattina

Non si sa come è morta.
Si vedono solo i 3 maschi e i genitori stanno con loro.
E' quindi solo un sospetto, ma fondato, visto che una coppia è già stata uccisa "tempo fa" (hanno salvato i 3 piccoli e, immagino, allevati a mano).
Non conosco il falconiere che informa Froona, ma in quella zona ci sono diversi centri in cui si occupano di rapaci - e non solo - per recuperarli e rimetterli in libertà, quando possibile.
Se sparare ai falchi, con l'assurda idea di proteggere i piccioni, diventasse più di uno sporadico episodio, ci sarebbe veramente di che preoccuparsi.
