......è da quando ho visto le foto di Mariah ferita che vorrei postare.......ma non mi riesce proprio fare commenti
leggo e rileggo ma posso farmi una ragione della natura dei falchi, di quello che non sappiamo o non vediamo della loro vita, dei loro combattimenti ........non certo della stupidità degli umani.....

Non è facile e forse è anche inutile commentare. Vorrei avere la capacità di semplificare per poter vedere il loro mondo (e il nostro) senza provare quello che provo.

Per la Kodak: è soprattutto a Rochester che la difendono, naturalmente, ma anche lì non all'unanimità. Per quel che vale.

Ecco un aggiornamento:

Received another update this morning, Mariah is being a model patient, standing and eating on her own - the veterinarian is planning to do surgery on the throat wound but not until next week. They wanted to make sure she was stable first and at this point there is no rush. That’s all for now but I thought you would like to know she’s doing well.

Viene dal Mike Allen, un "tecnico della vita selvatica" della DEC. Dice che Mariah si comporta da paziente modello e si regge in piedi e anche mangia da sola. Il veterinario ha intenzione di operare sulla ferita alla gola settimana prossima. Volevano essere sicuri che fosse stabilizzata prima e non hanno premura.

Injured Falcon May Not Return to Rochester Bud Lowell ROCHESTER, NY (2009-04-15)

A state wildlife expert says it's a case of "wait and see" if the injured Peregrine Falcon Mariah can be returned to Rochester.

Mariah was taken to a Syracuse veterinary clinic on Tuesday after she was seriously injured in a territorial battle with two younger falcons that have moved into Rochester.

Wildlife Technician Jim Allen from the State Department of Environmental Conservation says one wound penetrated the falcon's throat and may have injured the bird's crop. She was also wounded in the shoulder, the back and one wing.

Allen says if Mariah does recover well enough to be returned to the wild, she would probably start battling with the new female again if she's returned to Rochester. He says a lot of questions will have to be answered, but first the falcon has to recover. He says her survival for the first 48 hours after her injuries is a good sign.

Mariah has nested for the past 11 years in Rochester. She became an internet celebrity after Rochester Falconcam wired her nesting box with webcams. But this year, Mariah's long-time mate, Kaver, failed to reappear in Rochester after the winter. A younger female then showed up and pushed Mariah out of her territory. Birdwatchers saw Mariah brought down in a fight with the younger female and her mate on Sunday and they brought her to local wildlife rehabilitators.

Allen says Mariah was badly injured, but quick action by the wildlife rehabbers has given her a good chance for survival. They and a Rochester-area vet stabilized Mariah, and Tuesday she was taken to a Syracuse vet who's experienced in caring for injured falcons."

Questa l'esperienza di Carol Phillips che ha soccorso quasi per caso Mariah insieme a Brian H senza nemmeno sapere chi era quel falco caduto e ferito, che stava per subire l'ultimo attacco.
Io credo che lo sguardo fiero e feroce che la Regina ha lanciato a Carol la terza mattina sia stata una ricompensa grande.
Quando dice che guardare in quegli occhi di un bruno scuro è come guardare in un abisso selvaggio, so cosa intende..

The first day that Brian and I brought Mariah to the rehabber, she
could barely stand on her own. She was staring off into space, no reaction to anything around her. They were fearful that there was a problem with her vision. She accepted food with a lot of coaxing, eating 8 - 10 pieces of quail breast meat soaked in pedialite and kept it down.

On the 2nd day she was standing on her own, but still a little wobbly. She was tracking movement around her, but still looked pretty woosy. She ate with a little less coaxing. Definitely better than the first day.

On the 3rd morning, when she was being prepared for pick-up, she was even better, actually opening her beak to accept the pieces of quail. This was when she gave me the Fierce Look (tm). When I saw that, I knew she was doing better. To look into those dark brown (yes, brown!) eyes is to look into a wild abyss.

She is truly the most beautiful creature. Just before Mike arrived, she
actually bobbed her head a few times and shrugged her wings.

I was so happy to read Mike's most recent update. That she's eating on her own is wonderful news! I am so happy that she seems to be getting better and stronger each day.

She's definitely a fighter and a strong-willed Peregrine.

Chiamiamolo come vogliamo.. è un destino almeno singolare..
Il maschio residente di Rochester, lo stesso che ha attaccato Mariah insieme alla sua giovane compagna, è un nipote di M&K, nato da Freedom, uno dei figli nati a Mariah e Kaver nel 2002, il primo anno della loro vita in comune.

E' possibile che la femmina sia Grace, nata a M&K nel 2007.
L'ID di Archer non ha bisogno di conferme.
Ci sono anche novità su Sabrina.. che forse è un maschio..

Per quanto a conoscenza delle leggi che regolano il mondo animale etc. etc., non intendo seguire la nuova coppia, almeno non quest'anno.
Loro non sanno di essere figli o nipoti di X o Y. Sono rapaci che cercano un territorio, un compagno/a, la riproduzione, il cibo, tutti istinti primari che nulla hanno a che fare con il nostro modo d'intendere e di sentire, con la nostra 'cultura'.
E forse per la prima volta mi accorgo che l'anello identificativo può anche essere contro natura.
Umanamente avrei preferito non sapere niente dei due falchi che (insieme) hanno abbattuto Mariah. Umano, troppo umano.
Queste considerazioni del tutto personali (e viziate da un punto di vista errato) servono unicamente a spiegare il fatto che riporterò solo notizie di Mariah.
Se posso, perché sono in partenza.
Ma chi può, per favore, lo faccia.

Post le notizie (molto buone) su Mariah. Non preoccupatevi: ci penso io a tenervi aggiornati, come ho già scritto a Giò in un PM.

"Mike Allen just sent us a news update on Mariah’s condition that he received from her veterinary team on Saturday. The news continues to be good.

Just a note to let you know that the veterinarian was just here to examine Mariah. We are delighted at her progress. We can’t believe how well the wound is healing. It looks so much better than last Tuesday. We now believe that it will heal on its own without stitches.

We removed the bandage and she is now having the neck area covered with an antibiotic/antiseptic wound glue called Facilitator. She checked the puncture wounds on her feet and the tear on her wing webbing. They are healing nicely. She is an excellent patient. I have a hood that fits her well and she is very cooperative in handling her. The doctor took her off the torb (seditive) today, but we will continue with her antibiotics.

The veterinarian will be back to check her around noon on Tue, as he felt it was less stressful on Mariah if I did not transport her into the clinic, so he is willing to come here to treat her. She is in a quiet and calm setting here and we didn’t want to cause any [undue] stress.

I can’t begin to tell you how well she is eating. I have been cutting her food up for her into little [bite] sized pieces, but I think she is ready to eat a whole quail on her own. I will open it up for her, so she can pick it apart by herself. Not only will this be more natural for her, but it will keep her occupied. Tomorrow (Sunday), I am going… to get her some more fresh quail from a friend who raises them and is willing to give us some. I will send you another report after the doctor is here on Tuesday.

We too are delighted to hear that Mariah is making such rapid progress! Our heartfelt thanks go to the team of caring professionals who are taking care of Mariah and to Mike, Barb and everyone at the DEC for keeping us informed."

Sabato scorso Mike Allen ha inviato un aggiornamento sulle condizioni di Mariah che ha ricevuto dall'equipe di veterinari. Le notizie sono ancora buone :D :D :D :

Il veterinario è appena stato per controllare Mariah. Siamo molto contenti dei suoi progressi e stentiamo a credere al modo in cui la ferita si chiude. Ha già un altro aspetto al confronto di martedì scorso. Ora crediamo che non sarà necessari applicari i punti.

Abbiamo tolto la benda e una colla antibiotica/antisettica per ferite viene applicata alla zona collo. Sia le ferite sulle zampe che lo strappo sull'ala guariscono bene. Mariah è una paziente modella. C'è un cappuccio che è della misura giusta per Mariah ed è collaborativa. Non deve più prendere il sedativo ma continuerà con gli antibiotici. Il veterinario tornerà per un controllo martedì a mezzogiorno.

Mariah mangia molto bene. Finora, il cibo è stato tagliato in piccoli pezzi per lei ma la clinica crede che sia pronta a mangiare una quaglia intera da sola. La quaglia sarà aperta ma Mariah avrà la possibilità di mangiarla come vuole lei. Non solo sarà più naturale ma le terrà anche impegnata.

Ci sarà un altro rapporto martedì dopo la visita del veterinario.

Anche noi siamo molto felice del progresso veloce di Mariah. Un grazie di cuore a tutti che prendono cura di Mariah.

Credo che queste notizie faranno felice tutti noi che abbiamo seguito Mariah con preoccupazione in queste ultime settimane :D :D

capisco l'atteggiamento di giovanna. Nonostante non abbia mai fatto una colpa a S2 di aver ucciso Ma e di aver causato la morte del piccolo fachetto olandese 2 anni fa, non sono piu' riscita a guardare con lo stesso trasporto quel nido. Ogni volta mi sembra di vedere il piccolino che chiede disperato cibo.. Non e' questione di avercela con i falchi e' che il cuore fa male al ricordo e non si riesce a staccarsi da quel senso di angoscia.
Per quanto triste sia che si tratti di 2 falchi della progenie, sono contenta di sapere la loro identita'. Non guardero' con lo stesso affetto questa cam, per me quella e' ancora e comunque il regno di Mariah e Kaver. Terro' incrociate le dita per la ns. matriarca e spero che ci fara' contenti guarendo al meglio e tornando ad essere padrona del cielo -di qualsiasi cielo si tratti- Se serve tradurro', non bene come warbler e non in modo cosi' divertente come il googlesiano di sonia ma volentieri e come atto d'affetto per una delle piu' forti e da me amate protagoniste

La notizia che Mariah non avrà nemmeno bisogno di un intervento è bellissima!
Si sta riprendendo in modo incredibile, è ancora forte e sarà sempre grande.
Vi saluto con un paio di foto, tra le moltissime, dei bei tempi che ci hanno regalato. Un giorno riuscirò a pensarci con più serenità.
