Ciao a tutti, sono Francesca, una "new entry" del forum. Vi sto "spiando" da qualche giorno, da quando Niseema ha inviato alla mailing list di cui faccio parte una disperata richiesta di aiuto per gli allora 3 pulli...
Ho fatto la mia piccolissima parte inviando la protesta a chi di dovere, e mi sono appassionata alle vicende dei piccolini, ma mi sento totalmente impotente di fronte a queste scene... Sentirli piangere è straziante, non so proprio come si possa fare a pensare che "la Natura deve fare il suo corso"... Che significa, sono comunque delle vite!!! Non si può abbandonarli a loro stessi, altrimenti non avrebbe senso posizionare dei nidi artificiali per aiutarne la riproduzione!
Io credo che "fatta la legge, trovato l'inganno", purtroppo temo però che manchi nel gruppo di controllo olandese qualcuno che si voglia fare carico di questa responsabilità e dimostri un po' di coraggio...
Mah, speriamo bene per i piccoli...

Vi prego di partecipare e diffondere al massimo. Un sito di birdcam olandese, che ha puntato delle webcam su un nido dei piccoli falchi, di fronte all'imprevisto rischio di vita dei pulcini NON STA INTERVENENDO. Basterebbe che i gestori del nido lasciassero delle scorte nel nido. Se abbiamo diritto di guardare, abbiamo anche il dovere d'intervenire.
Un pullo è già morto e i rimanenti 2 pulli stanno mangiando pochissimo perché la mamma non è più tornata al nido scacciata da una femmina intrusa la quale, ogni volta che il padre arriva con una preda per imbeccare i figli, gliela strappa via.

We are seeing what is happening in the peregrine falcons' nest and would like herewith to ask you to do something with the highest urgency in order to save the two chicks. One cick is dead!

We understand that in most cases the best thing to do is to let nature follow its course, but in this case we believe that humans have modified the environment so much that they are putting the survival of these wonderful birds at risk in large areas of the world. Today, many efforts are made to recover their number and each chick is a precious life worth saving (also in consideration of the low rate of fledlings that survive their first dangerous year of life).

In our view, the best thing to do would be to take the chicks from their nest, feed them just enough to help them recover, and look for another falcon nest with chicks of the same age. They would survive as foster chicks. Alternatively, you could help the male feed the chicks, as a biologist did with eagle chicks in Finland last year.

Please give the chicks a good chance to survive.Yr nestcam is well known all over the world . We follow it from Italy, but we know that there is a lot of people watching from the USA and Canada as well. Now we are all looking at this poor wretched nest and we are all seeing how you are behaving in this drama.

Real animal lovers cannot accept to stand by and watch without doing anything. In S.Francisco some biologists carried out a dangerous rescue of eggs from the Bay Bridge... You have the opportunity to do more by striving to save these chicks. For sure, this would be even more appreciated all over the world.

In diesem Fall jedoch möchten wir darauf hinweisen, dass der Mensch schon allzusehr die Umwelt degradiert hat und diese herrlichen Geschöpfe in vielen Teilen der Welt zum Aussterben verurteilt hat. Heutzutage macht man sich grosse Mühe, die Anzahl der Wanderfalken zu erhöhen. Jedes Küken ist ein kostbares Leben, das man retten soll (auch angesichts der hohen Sterblichkeit der Jungfalken im ersten gefährlichen Lebensjahr).

Unserer Meinung nach wäre es am besten, die Jungfalken aus dem Nest zu nehmen, sie eine Zeit lang gut zu füttern, um sie zu neuen Kräften zu bringen und sie dann in ein fremdes Neste zu geben zur Adoption. Oder Ihr könntet dem Vater bei der Futtersuche helfen, wie es voriges Jahr in Finnland ein Biologe mit jungen Adlern gemacht hat.

Bitte geben Sie den Küken eine eine gute Chance zum Überleben. Ihre Webcam des Horstes ist weltweit bekannt. Wir verfolgen sie hier in Italien und mit uns viele Leute aus den USA und aus Kanada. Alle schauen das arme Nest an und bedauern Ihr Verhalten in diesem drammatischen Schauspiel.

Die wahren Tierfreunde wollen nicht annehmen zu zusehen, dass nichts zur Rettung getan wird. Nous comprenons que dans la plupart des cas le mieux est de laisser faire à la nature son travail, mais dans ce cas nous croyons que l'homme a déjà beaucoup modifié l'environnement et a mis ces magnifiques oiseaux au risque de disparaître de bien de régions du monde. Maintenant on fait beaucoup d'efforts afin d'augmenter leur nombre et chaque poussin est une vie précieuse à économiser (sûrtout en considération du bas pourcentage des jeunes faucons qui survit à la première année, la plus dangereuse de leur vie). De notre point de vue, le meilleur chemin devrait être de prendre les poussins de ce nid, pour les alimenter juste le nécessaire pour les aider à récupérer et de rechercher un autre nid de faucons avec des poussins du même âge, où ils survivraient en tant que poussins adoptifs. Ou l'on pourrait soutenir le mâle pendant l'alimentation des fauconneaux comme un biologiste a fait l'année dernière avec des poussins d'aigle en Finlande. S’il vous plait, donnez aux fauconneaux une bonne chance de survivre. Partout dans le monde la cam du nid est bien connue. Nous la suivons d'Italie mais nous savons qu'un grand nombre de gens l'observe aussi bien des Etats-Unis et du Canada . Tout le monde est en train de regarder ce pauvre nid et votre comportement en face de ce drame. Ceux qui aiment véritablement les animaux ne peuvent pas accepter de voir cela sans rien faire. A S. capiamo che nella maggior parte dei casi la cosa migliore da fare e' lasciar fare alla natura il suo lavoro, ma in questo caso crediamo che l'uomo abbia modificato cosi' tanto l'ambiente e messo questi spendidi uccelli a rischio di scomparire da grandi parti del mondo. Ora vengono fatti molti sforzi per aumentare il loro numero ed ogni pullo e' e' una vita preziosa da salvare (anche in considerazione della percentuale bassa di sopravvivenza dei giovani falchi al primo pericoloso anno di vita).
Secondo il nostro punto di vista ora la cosa migliore sarebbe prendere i piccoli dal nido, alimentarli giusto il necessario per rimetterli un po' in forze e cercare un altro nido con pulli della medesima eta', sopravviverebbero come figli adottivi. Oppure potreste supportare il padre agevolandolo nella ricerca di cibo come ha fatto lo scorso anno un biologo con degli aquilotti in finlandia.
Per favore date ai pulli una buona chance di sopravvivere. La vs webcam del nido e conosciuta in tutto il mondo. Noi la seguiamo dall'italia ma sappiamo che anche molta gente vi segue dagli USA e dal Canada. Tutti stanno guardando a questo povero nido ora ed al vostro comportamento in questo dramma.
I veri amanti degli animali non possono accettare di vedere questo senza fare niente. A san Francisco i biologi hanno fatto un pericoloso recupero di upva a sul Bay Bridge ... voi avete l'opportunita' di fare di piu' facendo degli sforzi per salvare i piccoli e questo sarebbe di certo anche di piu' apprezzato in tutto il mondo.

We must help the chicks!

What is happening in the Ma & Pa nest now is something which has nothing to with natural selection: the chicks hatched heatlhy and the parents were caring very well about them.
Then, Ma disappeared and Pa was raising the brood alone: Natural Selection has formed the instinct of this male in order to cope with a sudden disappearance of its mate, and he was doing quite well its job.
Then, another unexpected event: the female subtracting the food (but respecting the chicks), and Pa still trying to feed them. But this seems not to be enough and the chicks are just at the limit of their survival..

I am asking you (the responsible(s) of this nest) to undertake some actions to revert this situation: for example just drop in the nest a couple of dead pigeons/day (one for the female and another tied on its legs so that the female cannot remove it, for the male to feed the chicks) or giving food to the chicks in the nest (an operation will will take some 20 min withouth disturbing much the male but providing to the chick enough energy for further begging the male). This should be done just for one more week, because it is now the critical period: then, the chicks will be old enough to eat the preys alone and perhaps to compete with the female for the food.

To help the three chicks now, in my view, does not mean at all to interfere with Natural Selection!!

By the way an artificial nest is already a human interference with our environment and watching on-line the show of the slow death of the chicks makes me and many other visitors quite frustrated and unhappy.
Also, by being part of this show we are also part of this “natural selection” and in case of peregrines, we as humans we havy many responsibilities:
-first: we make them almost disappearing with DDT and other noxious productus;
-second: we struggled for helping the population all around the world to recover, sometimes by introducing (thousands of ) captive-raised birds and often (in the States) by introducing birds from other geographic areas;
-third: we provide them, in many cases good nesting opportunities which they suddenly accepted thus confirming that habitat, including urbanised areas, is suitable for them to breed and reproduce and that perhaps only nesting sites were a limiting factor;
-fourth: we placed webcams and gave the opportunity to thousands of people to watch the secret life of these birds on their nest from their home pc.
This latter in my view is the best help we gave to these birds because people can appreciate the daily effort of these birds to protect and raise with care their chicks. And people loves them and suffer for accidents due to Natural Selection (unhatched eggs, chicks dying because of intra-nest competition or disease), but do not like to suffer for the omission of some simple actions which can revert a situation created by a series of unexpected events...

Wir verstehen, dass vorwiegend dafür gestimmt wird keinen Eingriff in die Natur vorzunehmen. In diesem Fall jedoch möchten wir darauf hinweisen, dass der Mensch schon allzusehr die Umwelt degradiert hat und diese herrlichen Geschöpfe in vielen Teilen der Welt zum Aussterben verurteilt hat. Heutzutage macht man sich grosse Mühe, die Anzahl der Wanderfalken zu erhöhen. Jedes Küken ist ein kostbares Leben, das man retten soll (auch angesichts der hohen Sterblichkeit der Jungfalken im ersten gefährlichen Lebensjahr).

Unserer Meinung nach, im jetztige Situation wäre es am besten wenn Ihr dem Vater bei der Futtersuche helfen, wie es voriges Jahr in Finnland ein Biologe mit jungen Adlern gemacht hat, da der gute Vater sich Mut und Mühe gegeben hat standing auf Futtersuche zu sein weil diese meistens von eine fremde Weibchen gestolen ist.
