io l'ho gia' detto e mi ripeto ...piuttosto che una schiusa troppo tardiva e vdere il piccolo spegnersi per incapacita' di competizione con i fratelli piu' grandi...preferisco un uovo che non si schiude... mi fa stare molto meno male...

Anche quest'anno c'è un piccolino chiamato little scrapper che si fa largo tra i più grandi e con successo! :D

Results from the banding event are as follows: Female- Red Band, Female- Blue Band, Male- Green Band and Male- Yellow band. All four fledglings were treated for feather mites. Both of the males have been monitored for the possible symptoms of a protozoan infection. Both appear to be healthy. As in past years, naturally occurring processes and events are allowed to take their course whenever possible. Intervention takes place only when absolutely necessary. In anticipation of the young birds taking their first flight the falcon watch and rescue program will begin Monday, June 11th and continue through Sunday, June 17th.

6/4/2007:: Nestling aggiornamento I risultati dall'evento delle fasce sono come segue: Fascia rossa femminile, fascia blu femminile, fascia verde maschio e fascia gialla maschio. Tutti e quattro i principianti sono stati trattati per gli acari della piuma. Entrambi i maschi sono stati controllati per i sintomi possibili di un'infezione del protozoan. Entrambi sembrano essere sani. Come in passato, i processi e gli eventi naturali sono permessi prendere il loro corso per quanto possibile. L'intervento avviene soltanto una volta assolutamente necessario. In previsione degli uccelli giovani che prendono al loro primo volo il falco guardare ed il programma di salvataggio comincerà il lunedì 11 giugno e continuerà a domenica il 17 giugno.

Volunteers work two-hour shifts, reporting, by radio, activity at the ledge to “falcon central” that is the DEP Environmental Education Center. If a fledgling lands on the street or any other situation the would put it in harms way, the young bird is rescued, examined and placed on the roof of the 16 floor Rachel Carson State Office Building. Eventually, the fledgling will fly again, usually landing on a nearby building. Within a day or two after fledging, the young birds develop the strength and skills necessary to return to the nest ledge. Eyases Treated as a Precaution: The Game Commission decided it best to capture, examine and if necessary treat the eyases. There was some indication at the time of banding that a protozoan infection may have been manifesting in two of the eyases. On June 5th, all four of the eyases were captured and examined. There was some indication of the infection in the green-banded male. As a precaution all four eyases were treated with an anti-protozoan.

1)UPDATE: BLUE GIRL AND YELLOW BOY ARE ON THE BALCONY RIGHT NOW. THAT IS UP ABOVE THEIR LEDGE FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T KNOW. SO, BLUE GIRL HAS FLEDGED!!

2)GREAT NEWS! GREEN BOY WAS FOUND IN AN ALLEY ON THE SIDE OF THE PARKING GARAGE AND IS WELL THEY ARE WATCHING HIM TO MAKE SURE HE CAN GET OUT OF WHERE HE IS AND GET SOMEWHERE SAFELY. I'LL POST PICTURES TONITE. HE'S BEAUTIFUL!!

Quindi hanno volato. Blue girl e Yellow boy per primi, seguiti da Green boy trovato nel viale e soccorso, ma sano e salvo! :D :D :D

per un mesetto almeno -se non incappano in incidenti particolari (sbattere su vetri, nel traffico o sui cavi di corrente) saranno controllati a vista da squadre di volontari in turni di un paio d'ore per squadra (se non ricordo male) percio' se si fossero cacciati in un posto da cui non riescono a uscire o i loro genitori non riuscissero ad alimentarli sarebbe facile che ci fosse un'operazione di soccorso (il 100% di garanzie non ci sono perche' in un contesto urbano non e' facilissimo seguirli da terra. Ma anche se il loro forum lascia a desiderare per lo spam in inverno, la loro organizzazione di assistenza ai primi voli e' ottima e da questo punto di vista faranno tutto quello che e' umanamente possibile fare nel periodo in cui si puo' fare.. Poi i falchetti allargheranno il raggio di volo e si disperderanno quando i genitori smetteranno di cacciare per loro... Allora niente piu' si potra' fare se non pregare. Sappiamo che l'anno scorso di 5 ne sono rimasti 2 (almeno di quei 2 non si sono avute cattive notizie) Ma bisogna dare loro atto che i gruppi di volontari hanno fatto veramente di tutto per seguirli e che hanno avuto successo in questo, infatti nel periodo di sorveglianza TUTTI erano ancora vivi e indentificati di tanto in tanto nei luoghi in cui si fermavano........ Di piu' non era possibile fare

6/20/2007 :: Fledgling Update
All four have now fledged. The blue-banded female was rescued after becoming exhausted and landing in a nearby alley. The males are doing fine. The red-banded female took her first flight yesterday; she appears to be flying well. DEP environmental education staff will continue to monitor the young birds and provide assistance if necessary.

questo nido ha anche di buono che il terrazzo e' ampio e comodo per cui dopo i primi difficili tentativi dove magari atterrano nei terrazzini piu' piccoli sotto o sul tetto sopra ... i piccoli trovano facile tornare al nido e atterrarci comodamente. Anche l'anno scorso e' stata a lungo la loro base dove ricevevano cibo, se lo disputavano si ritrovavano e ripartivano... D'altra parte l'edificio e' intitolato a Rachel Carson e mi viene da credere che un bel terrazzo con nido cosi' non sia casuale .....
Lei con i nostri falchi a molto a che vedere e di certo se da lassu' guarda sara' felice che ci sia un bel nido "a casa sua"..
