FALCON CHICK HOPEFULS.
Warm weather will soon follow the chills of winter, bringing a new chance for Hera and Zeus to have healthy falcon chicks!
The 20th Anniversary of the Woodmen of the World Peregrine Falcon Project was something of a letdown to many. Falcon fans watched as Hera laid four eggs, but the excitement quickly turned into sadness.
Hera was not able to tend to the eggs after her confrontation with another peregrine falcon on May 5, 2008. She was quickly taken to Raptor Recovery Center Nebraska for medical care, and while Zeus took over caring for the eggs, he was unsuccessful due to the cold, wet weather and lack of food.
Today, Hera has fully recovered and is back at the Woodmen Tower with Zeus. “Both birds are definitely here,” said Tim Sautter, Manager of the Tower.
The excitement is starting to build and many are hopeful that our winged friends will have better luck in 2009.
“We are hoping they lay eggs in early March or April,” said Sautter.
In the months ahead, continue to check www.woodmen.org/falcons for updates!

We Have an Egg!
We've got our first egg of the season. We first noticed the egg Saturday afternoon. Peregrines usually lay a clutch of 3-5 eggs a couple days apart. Here is a picture for verification.
Congratulazioni a Hera&Zeus con infiniti auguri per una bellissima stagione 2009! :D :D :D
