Mariah&Kaver di Rochester (Kodak) sono indubbiamente la coppia più prolifica che conosciamo (tra quelle monitorate, s'intende). In effetti nel 2006 Mariah - alla presunta età di 10 anni - ha deposto 6 uova, ma, a causa di vari drammi intercorsi (di cui si può leggere nel vecchio forum), solo 3 piccoli (tutte femmine) sono stati portati all'involo: Sabrina, Linn (trovata di recente con proprio territorio a Scarborough, Ontario, Canada) e Rhea Mae (che ha ora un territorio e un maschio 'suoi' a Toronto).
Nel 2005 M&K hanno deposto 5 uova e portato con successo all'involo tutti i piccoli. Ma né prima né dopo il 2006 questa matriarca ha deposto 6 uova.
In effetti lei sembra costituire un'eccezione.
A Harrisburg Mom&Dad hanno avuto covate di 5, ma 4 uova sembrano la media più diffusa e, forse, più facile da gestire per i genitori.

I'm sorry to respond in English. I've only once came across a peregrine pair who succesfully raised 7 eyas.
Most of the time there are 3-4 eggs.
Incubating is the major problem with so many eggs. The broodpatch is not large enough to come in touch with all the eggs. They cannot be evenly warmed and so it is not effective, and so nature decides that 6 is the maximum.

And feeding such a bunch of hungry birds is a problem as well, especially when they turn into juvi's.

wow froona, a nest that successfully raised 7 chicks seems to me really a wonder!! where did the event happen????? and when??
