Falchi pellegrini a Cleveland, Ohio

Oggi al gathering solo Boomer si è fatto vedere all'inizio. Poi Sw è venuta dal nulla, ha fatto un paio di passate come una regina che che regala al pubblico la propria intangibile presenza per un attimo fuggevole.
Pare che un paio di TV siano riuscite a riprenderla prima che se ne andasse via col suo principe consorte.
La ragazzaccia non si è fatta proprio vedere.

Ma la notizia è che Only-U ha volato e bene malgrado la pioggia.
Ecco il report e le foto di Scott Wright.
Devo dire che questa volta ho particolarmente apprezzato la sua determinazione, voleva trovarla a tutti i costi e lo ha fatto nel modo migliore, cercando prima un adulto per poi riuscire ad individuare la giovane.

Uno up high on the building.

So glad I went down yesterday.

I knew she had to be on another building or up high.

When I arrived no one was at the nest. I opened a window by the web cams. This will normanly draw an adult in, but after 20 mins no one showed up.

I got on the 15th floor roof to scan the back of the tower and other buildings on the square.

You can see the tops of a few buildings and you get a better angle on Key tower and a few other buildings. The building just south of the nest on Prospect/Huron has many places a young falcon can land and be very hard to see.

No Uno, so I feared she might be on the ground, as it rained buckets.

Walking around the square I saw the adults flying up high on the building, watched for a bit and located Uno on the 36th floor.

She was dry! So the smart young lady kept dry were ever she was durring the rain.

She made a short flight, as she made two 360's she was able to climb to the 41st floor! Keep in mind the wind was screaming way up there.

As she flew she flapped as she went into the wind and soared as she flew with a tail wind. Silly Girl. You flap with a tail wind and soar to get lift into the wind. She will learn. Very good flight, very good I say.

I was able with security to gain access to an ofice on the 41st floor (right below the oberservation deck) but you could not see her due to the way the ledge was.

We went to the 42nd floor and she was right below us.

Took a few photos that show her in relation to the street below.

Just below her is the parking lot on the west side of public square.

So unless Uno makes or attempts to land/misses landing ( I think not ) she will be fine.

Barring any events of a Peregine kind, Uno will be just fine.

Grazie mille Gio! Bello il commento on come lei si è comportata con il vento contrario e con il vento di poppa (come dice Scott, deve battere le ali con il vento di poppa e volare con quello contrario): diamo per scontato che anche se non volano bene, i giovani sanno già queste cose...

Grazie Warbler per aver tradotto meglio di quanto avrei saputo io il il punto importante del volo di U nella descrizione di Scott.



Lui però dice (in un altro post e situazione) che non aveva mai visto prima, in tanti anni di monitoraggio alla TT, un giovane usare la coda in modo così adeguato!
Questo fa sperare bene, anche se U può ancora incontrare innumerevoli difficoltà in questo periodo e oltre, lo sappiamo.
Ma voglio sperare.

Negli ultimi due giorni U ci ha fatto morire.
Solito scambio frenetico di email. Ma Chris era tranquilla e aveva ragione. Non era riuscita a vederla dalla piazza e adiacenze, ma non è per niente facile se nemmeno gli adulti sono in giro.
Ieri è apparsa nel nido........ scatenando un altro scambio frenetico, ma gioioso.
Stiamo aspettando le foto di Scott che come al solito non mostra la minima fretta.

As you all saw Uno was in the nest box today.

I got down before 8am and Uno was chasing parents around.

Boomer hunted on the north side of Key and Uno went over to check it out.

No food.

Uno flew back to the building (15th floor roof) got a photo from a distance and she flew again.

Opened a window near the nest, I figured if a parent came over to check me out Uno would not be far benind.

SW came in and Uno was not far behind.

Uno made 4 flights back and fro accross the square and after chasing Mom around for food took a nap on the 15th floor as Mom was on top of the flag pole atop the casino.

So Uno is flying gang busters.

Not a bunch of wind till the lake breeze started to kick as I left for a Dr. appt at 11am.

Photos later today, including Uno at the nest and on the 12th floor ledge and in the nest box.

Ecco le foto migliori di Scott.

I cambiamenti sono visibili anche a distanza di pochi giorni. E ancora, a volte, ha una faccia da "bambina", poi di colpo assume un atteggiamento da giovane falco aggressivo e fa la faccia feroce..

Qualche altra di SW, ripresa nella stessa occasione e, naturalmente, proprio per niente contenta di rivedere il fotografo che detesta e che desidera tanto marchiare a vita con i suoi artigli.

Ma è bello poterla osservare da vicino, sempre splendida, nella calma come nella furia.

Queste sono del 31 maggio.
Nemmeno Boomer scherza se vede intrusi avvicinarsi al nido. L'espressione è decisamente ostile.
