Oltre ad essere completamente d'accordo, mi sa che hai un nipotino buddista, Gabbiano.. Una volta, mentre saliva una valle in Nepal, mio marito è stato rimproverato aspramente da una donna perché non si era reso conto di pestare una fila di formiche..
Le ultime su Ranger da C&C sono niente male, potrebbe tornare presto in famiglia.
Naturalmente SW è lì che sorveglia i voli dei ragazzini con la sua aria di di principessa annoiata e chi lo sa se ha un pensiero per il giovane falco che le ha permesso di essere madre ancora una volta..
Beh, lei è così.. e in realtà chi lo sa com'è.. certo una grande mamma.

We swung through public square early this evening to see if another male might be around. We were only there about 30-40 minutes, but saw all three juvies up high on the TT and saw a little bit of juvie high flying. SW was perched up high on Key Bank. She soared around the square a bit and then went back to another high perch on Key Bank. Didn't see a new male in the short time that we were there. Hopefully Ranger keeps improving and can get back here soon.

Mr. Harvey Webster, Director of Wildlife Resources at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, sends along this update on Ranger’s condition: “As of Monday afternoon, Ranger has made very slight improvement over the weekend. He is able to perch but not walk. He has to be force-fed as he refuses food on his own. Laura Jordan of the Medina Raptor Center is worried that his vision is impaired in one eye. The more time he spends down in this condition means the more time it will take to prepare him for release should he make a full recovery. All of this suggests that Ranger is in for a long convalescence and will not be releasable any time soon”.
Volunteer nest monitors, Mr. and Mrs. Saladin, visited the nestsite on Saturday and report, “We swung through public square early this evening to see if another male might be around. The bad news is that SW is now alone to feed the juveniles for the next few weeks until they learn to hunt on their own. The fledglings are now practicing take-offs and landings and working on their flying skills.
Sicuramente Ranger è in buone mani, ma ritornerà lo stesso di prima?
E intanto SW resterà sola a lungo dopo che i giovani se ne saranno andati.. Non è una gran bella situazione.

I received a voice-mail from Laura Jordan of the Medina Raptor Center about Ranger this afternoon Friday, June 18, 2010. He is still being force-fed and Dr. Riggs is concerned about possible lesions in one eye. Laura said that Dr. Riggs wants to see Ranger challenged in a larger enclosure next week to see if that might stimulate his appetite. It will also allow Dr. Riggs to assess his vision. I will update next week to report on any further progress at that time.
"Ho ricevuto un messaggio da Laura Jordan del Medina Raptor Center. Viene ancora nutrito con l'imbeccatura forzata e Dottore Riggs teme che ci siano lesioni ad un occhio. Dott. Riggs vuole vedere Ranger in un recinto più grande settimana prossima per vedere se il suo appetito viene stimolato e avere l'opportuità di valutare la vista. Ulteriori aggiornamenti saranno postati settimana prossima."

Purtroppo la rehab di Ranger non va tanto bene. Stanno facendo di tutto, pur sapendo che non tornerà mai più in libertà.
E poi, se non riuscirà a mangiare da solo il cibo offerto, c'è la possibilità che si decida per l'eutanasia.
Queste notizie non sono ancora tutte pubbliche, ma preferisco darle ora, anche perché ho poco tempo.
Sono molto addolorata e colpita dal destino di questo bel falco che ha avuto appena il tempo di vivere un'unica stagione riproduttiva insieme a SW, in un luogo privilegiato come la TT.
Ho fatto fatica ad accettarlo dopo la perdita del grande Buckeye. Ma avevo imparato a volergli bene.
SW non rimarrà probabilmente sola a lungo dopo che i figli si saranno allontanati.
Tuttavia.. chi può saperlo?

Temevo che questo potrebbe essere l'esito quando ho visto le altre informazioni sulle sue condizioni. Seguire il suo mutamento dalla goffaggine dei primi approcci - alle uova, ai piccoli, per esempio, ad un falco più sicuro è stato un privilegio. Immaginavo che avrei potuto continuare a seguirlo ma pare non sarà così.

Non ci sono grandi novità su Ranger, chissà possa recuperare un po'.
Intanto abbiamo perso Arrow, soccorsa e poi trattenuta al Medina Raptor Center, ma deceduta per emorragie interne.
C&C hanno visto giocare insieme i due giovani, Dart e Spike con SW, molto più in alto dei grattacieli.
A couple updates about the TT-- on Thursday, Arrow was found down and injured. Laura contacted us, but we weren't able to transport her. Lou, who volunteers at the MRC got her to Laura's and then she was assessed by Dr. Riggs. We don't know the extent of her problems just yet, as the early news was good, then Laura indicated there could be more of a problem. We'll update about her as we know more.
On the more positive side, out of pure luck we managed to see some peregrine action on Saturday evening as we swung through the TT on our way home from the Tower East site. One juvie was calling as he/she was flying high up by the Courthouse building, and then swung around to the other side where another juvie joined him/her in flight, and then both darted toward the back of the TT. As we were watching, the two less graceful flyers (obviously juvies in comparison) were calling and chasing another peregrine (we assume it was SW, of course). It was late, so fairly silhoutted, but it had to be Dart and Spike chasing SW.
