Sad News Folks "6/25/2007 :: Green-Banded male found One of the four young falcons that fledged from the nest at the Rachel Carson State Office Building in Harrisburg last week was found dead yesterday. The green-banded falcon apparently flew in to a pedestrian bridge over Walnut Street Sunday. It was found by a security guard who took it to the Whitaker Center for safe keeping until it could be identified. During the last several weeks, the falcons took flight from their nest on the 15th floor. During this time, the parent falcons teach the young how to fly and hunt. It is the most perilous time for the young falcons as they face the dangers of life in an urban setting such as power lines and traffic. " Fly free little one

7/3/2007 : Live Stream Vodeo Contract Extended
Commonwealth Media Services has decided to extend the falcon video viewing period. The live stream will be provided through the 16th of July. The remaining juveniles have been seen more often at the ledge in the morning and evening hours. By the end of July we expect them to begin wandering far and wide as independent young raptors.

Mi dispiace tanto, anche Red Girl se n'è andata...

Questa stagione è veramente tra le più crudeli. E poi il solito motivo dei cavi elettrici.. Se ne parla tanto ogni anno, ma poi si fa veramente qualcosa???

8/27/2007 :: Female Fledgling Found
The red-banded female fledgling was found dead near a tower carrying high voltage lines along a nearby rail line. Of all the hazards the young birds encounter, electricity and glass have caused the highest mortality. As we compile historic data on these incidents we also look for ways to remedy or minimize the impact of this necessary urban infrastructure. In this case, we’ll examine the power lines and suggest ways that the occurrence of such incidents may be reduced or eliminated.
